Growing up in Australia, as a child in the 1970’s, I shared my adventurous playtime with my older sister, Anna. We had a large garden, and Anna was always in charge of the games we would immerse ourselves in.
There were always mysteries to be solved, espionage and spy intrigue carried out from our club house. In our school holidays, our local friends would join in. Together we would set traps for imaginary foe, and set out to save the world. Our mother, who had her artist’s studio in the bottom of the garden, encouraged me to draw and study the violin.
During my adult years, I became a hairstylist, left Australia for travel and work in Europe, and the United Kingdom. The last 23 years I have spent working in London, freelancing on fashion events and working in a Central London hair salon. When Covid 19 hit, all my work stopped. At home for months, I began drawing again, and ideas for my book ‘The Adventures of Judy, Rosie and the Magic Coat’ began. It is an adventure story about my mother, Judy as a child with her dog Rosie.
With lockdowns in Australia and England, the story connected my mother and I on a daily basis, as I would email my illustrations to her for discussion. I now have a second book that I am illustrating, and am looking forward to continuing to make more adventure for children and adults alike. My books are for everyone who wants to escape for a while.
